The new macOS Tahoe, which includes a number of enhancements pertaining to Apple Intelligence, iPhone continuity features, and Spotlight search, was unveiled by Apple during Monday’s WWDC conference.
You can finally turn your folder icons pink (or any other color you like) with Apple’s new “Liquid Glass” design, which will give macOS Tahoe a sleek, customisable appearance. Similar to iOS 26, the design update for macOS Tahoe is more transparent and shiny, resembling actual glass. However, beneath the gleaming update are further enhancements that make use of Apple Intelligence to enhance the user experience.
By displaying Live Activities from iOS (the notification that appears on your lock screen and/or Dynamic Island to inform you that your Uber Eats order is 17 minutes away), macOS Tahoe more directly connects to a user’s iPhone. For the first time, Mac products will get a phone app, along with other upgrades to the iOS phone app like Hold Assist and Call Screening, thanks to continuity features. Additionally, Live Translation will be available on the FaceTime, Messages, and Phone apps.
Of all areas, Spotlight is going to deliver some of the biggest updates for macOS Tahoe. Apple’s AI capabilities enable Spotlight to provide results “intelligently,” anticipating your most likely search terms and recommending actions based on your current task or common activities.
Additionally, users can perform tasks straight from Spotlight. During the WWDC keynote, an Apple executive demonstrated how to use Spotlight to compose the subject line and body of an email and send it to a recipient without ever using the Mail program.
Quick keys, which let users create short character strings to trigger a certain action, are another element of the updated Spotlight. Apple demonstrated how to type “SM” to send a message and “AR” to add a reminder.
Tahoe is also home to a number of other significant iOS 26 upgrades, including as improvements to Genmoji and Image Playground, AI-powered reminders, a new Apple Games app, Messages backdrops and polls, and a new FaceTime landing page. Tahoe will also get the Journal app.
