On Thursday, OpenAI revealed a $100/month plan, something that power users have long desired.Until now, plans were priced at: free (which now includes advertisements), a $8/month Go plan (that also includes commercials), a $20/month Plus plan (ad free), and then all the way up to a $200 Pro plan (also ad free).
There is not yet a $200/month option listed on OpenAI’s price plan page. However, that highest tier is still available, OpenAI verified to TechCrunch.
According to the model creator, the new $100 Pro tier and Plus, which is still priced at $20 per month, are designed to accommodate regular use of ChatGPT’s coding tool Codex. Compared to the Plus plan, the $100 Pro plan will provide five times more Codex.
OpenAI makes no secret of the fact that Anthropic, which has long offered Claude a $100/month option, will be challenged by this new pricing tier.
The new $100 Pro Tier is intended to provide developers with more useful coding capacity for the money, particularly during intense work sessions where constraints are crucial.An OpenAI representative tells TechCrunch, “Codex offers higher coding capacity per dollar across paid tiers than Claude Code, with the difference showing up most clearly during active coding use.
One thing to be aware of is that through May 31, OpenAI will be giving even higher Codex limits on the $100 plan.Therefore, if you try the new tier, become rather obsessed with coding, and never receive a rate warning, you should be aware that this condition probably will not persist.
Unlimited usage is not offered by any of the plans.However, compared to Plus, the $200 plan offers 20× larger restrictions.This is sufficient to support “your most demanding workflows constantly, even across simultaneous projects,” according to the model maker’s FAQ. The same essential features are available in both Pro plans. The only difference is the rate limits, the company adds.
The spokesperson also says that more than 3 million people globally are using Codex every week, “up 5x in the past three months, with usage growing more than 70% month over month.”
