Apple Maps has never been regarded as the best navigation tool (Google Maps is undoubtedly the best), and if rumors are accurate, advertisements may soon be included to its user experience, according to Bloomberg.
According to insiders who spoke to Bloomberg, Apple is preparing to implement the change later this year and may make an official statement about it this month. At some time this summer, advertisements may begin to appear in the iOS Maps app.
In accordance with the agreement, firms would bid for the chance to advertise within the app along with pertinent word searches.According to Bloomberg, advertisements from companies who won the bidding procedure may appear as top results for map users searching for eateries, pubs, or shops.
Such a change might be a reliable source of income for Apple. For years, Google has integrated advertisements into its navigation tool, and Bing Maps provides local business owners with a comparable advertising capability.
There have been rumors regarding this potential for some time. The tech giant was reportedly exploring such a scheme in October, according to a similar story. Apple was contacted by TechCrunch for further details.
Maps’ limited functionality was a source of complaints from consumers years ago. However, with additional features like integrations with consumer magazines like Golf Digest and the Michelin Guide, Apple’s navigation software has advanced significantly in recent years.Maps unveiled a new feature at WWDC last summer that offers additional traffic information and context on regular trips. It is unknown how incorporating termsearch ads might affect user-loved features like Apple’s location history widget and privacy controls, but hopefully we will find out more when the ad announcement is made.
