Apple unveiled a new version of Xcode, its app development package, at WWDC 2025 that incorporates ChatGPT from OpenAI for coding, document production, and other features. Additionally, the business said that developers can import AI models from other suppliers into Xcode for AI-powered programming recommendations by using API keys.
In a blog post on the latest version of Xcode, Xcode 26, the company stated that developers may “integrate [AI] models directly into their coding experience to produce code, tests, and documentation; iterate on a design; solve issues; and more.”
Developers can use tools to generate a code preview or perform other activities with the new AI integrations in Xcode. Without registering an account, developers can tap ChatGPT in Xcode; customers who have paid for ChatGPT can connect their accounts to raise the rate limitations.
In addition, Apple today announced the Foundation Models framework, which enables developers to access the company’s on-device AI models. According to the business, developers may access these models with just three lines of code. Additionally, it stated that devices powered by Apple Silicon can also run local models.
There were rumors that Apple and Anthropic might collaborate to produce a vibe-coding program. But in the end, Apple decided on ChatGPT.
Notably, last year Apple showed off Swift Assist, a coding assistant for Xcode, but it was not made publicly available.
